Expectations at associate level

  • be able to present your work to an audience
  • have good written skills and use plain english
  • use a range of software to create accessible documentation where necessary

Expectations at working level

  • facilitate workshops. set their agendas to encourage good outcomes, such as clear actions and next steps
  • facilitate discussions within teams, with potentially difficult ideas and opinions. be prepared to challenge and be challenged
  • frame a problem to help others understand it
  • pitch communication at the right level for the audience. explain technical details to non-technical people
  • help teams to think about full journeys

Expectations at senior level

  • look for appropriate opportunities to speak about design in dwp and government
  • help other designers improve their communication skills
  • act as a mediator and be able to resolve conflict
